VISA-COMPLIANT HEALTH COVER · COSTA DEL SOL

Health insurance that actually passes the visa.

Wrong health cover is one of the most common reasons a Spanish residence file is refused. For many routes the requirement is a full private policy from an insurer authorised in Spain — no co-payments, no excess, no waiting periods. We make sure the policy you rely on is one the consulate accepts, arranged through insurance partners who write to that standard.

WHAT A VISA-COMPLIANT POLICY NEEDS

Four things the wording has to say

A cheaper policy that misses any one of these is a refusal waiting to happen. The requirements vary by route, so we confirm the exact standard for your application first.

Authorised insurer in Spain

The policy has to come from a company authorised to operate in Spain. A policy from back home, however good, generally will not be accepted for the visa file — the consulate wants cover it recognises.

No co-payments (sin copago)

For many residence routes the requirement is full cover with no co-payments — you do not pay a share per visit or per treatment. Policies that make you chip in each time tend not to qualify.

No excess, no deductibles

The cover should carry no deductible or excess. Cheaper policies often hide one, and it is a common reason a file is bounced. We check the small print so the wording matches what the visa asks for.

No waiting periods

The policy needs to be effective from day one, with no waiting periods before you can actually use it — the standard many routes describe as equivalent to public cover.

This cover is a core requirement of the Non-Lucrative Visa and several other routes without public cover. Where a public pay-in scheme fits you better, the Convenio Especial may be the answer instead.

ARRANGED WITH INSURANCE PARTNERS

We handle the visa. Our partners write the cover.

We are a law firm, not an insurer. The policy itself is arranged through insurance partners who issue cover written to the visa standard, and we tell you exactly what your route requires so nothing on the application is left to guesswork. One less box to worry about — and the right one ticked.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

The questions we get first

What kind of health insurance does a Spanish visa require?

For many residence routes that do not carry public cover — the Non-Lucrative Visa among them — the requirement is typically a full private policy from an insurer authorised in Spain, with no co-payments, no excess or deductibles, and no waiting periods, broadly equivalent to public health cover. The exact wording depends on the route, so we confirm what your specific application needs before anything is bought.

Does my travel insurance or existing policy count?

Usually not. Standard travel policies and policies that carry an excess or co-payment are one of the most common reasons a visa file is refused. The safe course is a policy written to meet the visa standard from the outset, rather than trying to stretch cover that was designed for something else.

How is the policy arranged?

We are a law firm, not an insurer, so the cover itself is arranged through insurance partners who write policies to the visa standard. We tell you what your route requires and point you to a policy that meets it, so the health-cover box on your application is one you can tick with confidence.

When might I not need a private policy?

It depends on the route. Some situations are served instead by the Convenio Especial — a public pay-in scheme — and other applicants may already have cover through work or a pension arrangement. We flag which applies to you rather than sell you a policy you do not need.
